With Bangkok continuing to shine as one of Asia’s most dynamic travel destinations, I sat down with Ms. Achara Chuenbunchoo, General Manager of The Berkeley Hotel Pratunam, to talk about what’s next for tourism in Thailand.
From changing traveler expectations to the rise of digital bookings and eco-conscious stays, she offers valuable insights into the future of hospitality. Ms. Chuenbunchoo also shares how her team is preparing to welcome more visitors from Turkey and Europe, especially as new flight connections bring these regions closer than ever.
Q: Could you please introduce us your background in Tourism and Hotel industry?
I have dedicated nearly 30 years to the hospitality industry, working with both international and Thai hotel brands across various segments, from luxury to upscale properties. My career spans operations, sales, and strategic leadership, giving me a well-rounded perspective on delivering exceptional guest experiences while driving strong business results. Joining The Berkeley Hotel Pratunam has been an exciting opportunity to strengthen our position as one of Bangkok’s leading MICE and leisure destinations.
Q: What are your thoughts about the future of the hotel industry in Thailand and Asia? Also new trends in the hospitality sector in Asia?
The outlook for Thailand and Asia’s hospitality sector holds great potential. Tourism remains a key economic driver, with both international arrivals and domestic travel continuing to grow. The next decade will be shaped by several trends:
Personalized Experiences – Guests now seek more than accommodation; they want unique, immersive experiences that reflect local culture, food, and lifestyle.
Digital Transformation – Technology is redefining guest journeys, from seamless mobile booking to AI-driven personalization and contactless services.
Sustainability – Travelers are increasingly conscious of environmental impact, making green operations and responsible tourism essential for hotels.
In short, the future will be defined by experience, technology, and sustainability—and those who innovate in these areas will lead the market.
Q: Could you please tell us about your hotel?
The Berkeley Hotel Pratunam is an iconic five-star property in the heart of Bangkok’s vibrant shopping and cultural district. With 788 rooms and suites, we are among the largest hotels in the city, catering to both leisure travelers and the MICE segment.
Our facilities include state-of-the-art meeting and convention spaces for up to 3,000 delegates, two swimming pools, a fitness center, and a variety of dining venues offering authentic Thai and international cuisines.
What truly sets us apart is our prime location—just steps away from major shopping centers like Platinum Fashion Mall and cultural attractions, making it perfect for both business and leisure.
Q: What is your main markets and average number of nights?
Our primary markets encompass the Asia-Pacific region—specifically China, India, and Southeast Asia—alongside long-haul markets from Europe and the Middle East. We also maintain a robust domestic client. Leisure guests generally stay 3 to 5 nights, whereas MICE and corporate travelers typically remain for 1 to 2 nights.
Q: What is the percentage of online bookings via the internet for your hotel compared to the traditional distribution channels?
Online channels contribute significantly, representing the largest share of our revenue. Meanwhile, traditional channels—such as travel agents, tour operators, and corporate partnerships—remain vital, especially key segments like MICE, group travel, and long-stay guests. These channels excel at delivering customized experiences and building strong relationships, which are key to maximizing revenue and customer loyalty in these markets.
Closing Statement for Turkish and European Audience
We see great potential in strengthening our relationship with the Turkish and broader European markets. Thai and Turkish travelers can enjoy enhanced connectivity and new flight options due to a recent Joint Business Agreement between Thai Airways and Turkish Airlines signed in June 2025. This agreement enables codeshare flights on the Bangkok–Istanbul route and aims to create seamless travel between the two countries and beyond, with potential expansion to other routes.
Bangkok remains a top destination for shopping, gastronomy, and cultural experiences—elements that resonate strongly with Turkish travelers.
At The Berkeley Hotel Pratunam, we are well-prepared to cater to these preferences. Our central location, halal-friendly dining options, and easy access to major shopping districts make us an excellent choice for Turkish guests seeking convenience, comfort, and a taste of Thai hospitality.
Our vision is to be the preferred hotel for both leisure and MICE travelers from Turkey and Europe, offering an exceptional blend of personalized service, spacious rooms, and world-class facilities. We warmly welcome our Turkish friends to experience the best of Bangkok with us.
